‘Driving for Life’

Sometimes learning to drive can feel like you are simply learning to pass the test, rather than learning how you should drive on your own and how to make decisions on your own in a much wider variety of roads after the test.

Obviously, I still want you to be able to pass your driving test, but the main goal is to turn you into a driver that can handle all of the crazy situations that the roads of the UK can throw at you. To do this we will focus on ‘road literacy’. This is the term I use to describe the skill of translating a good understanding of both the highway code, and the potential actions of the other road users around you into practical skills that will allow you to navigate all manner of junctions, roads and other road users confidently and safely.

A few examples of things I do to achieve this are:

– Ensuring a good understanding of the highway code

– Encouraging independent thought and problem solving

– Driving in complicated areas not seen on test routes

– Motorway lessons
